IN VEGAS: THE GREENEST PROS, THE COOLEST VOLUNTEERS

BMX and skate pros visit elementary school in Henderson, NVThe Green For All crew arrived in Henderson, Nevada with much excitement and anticipation. In the week that we were there, we were not disappointed once.

Obviously, we were looking forward to the Dew Tour Championships. But we were just as juiced for an earlier meeting with more than 30 students from Henderson to clean up a skate park with two Dew Tour pros.

The clean up was the perfect way to kick off five days of spreading the word about how we can all help Protect the 360°. BMX star (and vegan restaurant owner!) Kevin Porter and skateboard legend Fabrizio Santos did not need a lot of convincing to come support Protect the 360° and work with the students from Robert L. Taylor Elementary School.

Kevin and Fabrizio were the perfect spokespeople, as they both practice sustainable living in their personal lives. When asked what his tips for training were, Fabrizio suggest a healthy diet rich in organic veggies as the most important “training” element. Kevin is a practicing vegan and runs a vegan restaurant in his hometown of Chicago.

Everyone enjoyed the afternoon. Students raced each other to pick up the most trash and felt great about contributing to their school and community in a positive way!

Protect the 360 volunteers in Las Vegas

We also met our most dedicated volunteers yet at the Henderson skate park. When brothers Sebastian and Joseph approached our tent with their friend Boris, Mary (Green For All’s Education and Outreach Director) suggested they join us as volunteers at the Dew Tour. They jumped at the chance. They immediately began reading up on our tips to lower your carbon footprint and assured me that they would be to the booth bright and early.

As promised, the three of them showed up Thursday ready to talk to folks about how they could make a difference. Their support and enthusiastic help had the PT 360° booth buzzing all week with activity and excitement. The three young skaters were clearly regulars at all the local skate parks. They seemed to know everyone at the event — and didn’t hesitate to get folks in the photo booth and make sure they knew ways they could contribute.

The weekend ended with a spectacular Skate Vert final on the ramp built over Hard Rock’s pool, and it was a truly awesome way to end our Summer Dew Tour.

What’s next? Protect the 360° is just getting warmed up with the Dew Tour. We’ll be working to engage people through the Winter Tour and will hit the road again next year to spread the word about how we can all help to protect our earth. Please sign up to help out and get more information about how you can make a difference — and be on the look out for us to come to your city!
